I absolutely adore FIDLAR and spending my Thursday night watching them perform — despite having a 9am class the next morning — was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. They’re amazing to watch live, but even better to watch from the safety of a balcony. And the people watching? Prime-time action. I think I lost my voice just from screaming in horror/concern/amusement from watching the audience mosh. The amount of times my jaw dropped from watching the chaos ensue at Bowery Ballroom was just amazing. I’ve never been so entertained.
I didn’t feel as such during the Orwell’s opening set however. To quote my friend Emily, “you looked so so so unhappy.” Why yes, yes I did. Standing center stage, I didn’t quite mentally or physically prepare myself for the imminent moshing. After simultaneously defending myself and trying to take photos, it took all my strength to make enough room to get my camera in my bag. (So. Much. Close. Contact.) Not to mention, the lead singer of the Orwells is fucking nasty. Letting a crowd of fan girls pull down your pants zipper? Gross. I also don’t recommend going to a concert where mosh pits are involved when you’ve recently had major surgery. Add that to the list of great life choices of mine.
FIDLAR is Zac Carper, Brandon Schwartzel, Elvis Kuehn, Max Kuehn.
