Panic! At The Disco: “I Wanna Be Free”

I still remember the obsession I had when Vices & Virtues came out in 2011. A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out will always be a classic and Pretty. Odd. has its moments but it’s with Vices & Virtues in particular that I feel a special connection with. And in the years since, I’ve changed computers a handful of times, have had to restore my hard drive even more than that, and have had my iTunes library deleted over and over. Mind you, this was before the days of streaming music so when my music was deleted, it was sayonara for good because knowing how lazy I am, I was not going to re-download anything. That said, it’s been quite a while since I’ve listened to Panic! At The Disco.

So one of my methods of coping with stress is to clean and I had an urge to find this album again to play as background music, which probably stemmed from hearing Panic perform “New Perspective” live at the Pandora Holiday show back in December. And in last night’s process, I discovered “I Wanna Be Free,” which I had never heard before and for five years, I had no idea that Vices & Virtues had bonus tracks! Let me tell you, I love a clean bathroom and I will happily clean my own but the already euphoric experience was made so much better when “I Wanna Be Free” started playing and immediately, I was playing the song on repeat. Even though I only just discovered the song, it has the same addictive quality to it that made me love Vices & Virtues so much in the first place. When the chorus kicks in, I am just belting out along with Brendon Urie, which really, I wouldn’t have it any other way with a Panic song.
