While I love the raucous energy that comes with every New Politics performance, the change of pace that comes with “Stuck On You” in both a live setting and in recorded versions is what makes the song a personal favorite of mine. It’s the chance during a spirited New Politics performance for things to slow down, allowing everyone a chance to catch their breath, but really what’s happening is that our senses are now focused on the poignant rendition of the song onstage with Soren Hansen on piano. And as they should be! It’s so rare to be able to focus on just one thing at a time during a NP show which is why I love the change of pace that comes with “Stuck On You”.
But more importantly, it’s a chance to truly appreciate the musical talents of Soren Hansen which spans across multiple instruments. And today we have Hansen’s cover of Jesus Christ Superstar’s “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” to really make that clear. It’s a beautifully languid rendition of the famous song that doesn’t stop at merely a cover. It’s polished and layered—perfectly so at that—with Hansen’s voice sounding spectacularly serene.
